Yennayer – Amazigh New Year
Every year on 14 January (public holiday).
14 January 2027
Morocco (nationwide)
Id Yennayer, the Amazigh New Year, has been an official paid public holiday in Morocco on 14 January since 2024. Agadir and the Souss have a large Amazigh community, and the day is marked with traditional family meals and cultural events.
The decision to make the Amazigh New Year a national holiday was announced by the Royal Cabinet in May 2023, and the government decree fixing it on 14 January was adopted in November 2023. The first official holiday was 14 January 2024.
As a public holiday, administrations and banks are closed. Tours run as usual; it is a good day to look out for Amazigh music and cultural programmes in Agadir.
