Argan fruit harvest

Usually June to August/September; dates set locally.

Usual timing

Souss region

The argan forest around Agadir is unique to south-west Morocco. Its fruit ripens in early summer and, once it has fallen, is collected roughly between June and September, mainly by women from local villages and cooperatives.

Collection dates are agreed locally each year. In summer you will see the fruit drying near villages; visiting a women's argan cooperative is a good way to see how the oil is made.
